Christopher Egan first discovered architecture while growing up in San Antonio where he explored the city's 18th Century Spanish missions, La Villita, and the Paseo del Rio. His first designs were theatrical scenery and lighting in San Antonio, Atlanta and Houston, but the impernamence of stage sets led him to focus on architectureMr. Egan became a Project Architect with Richard Fitzgerald and Partners during Houston's building boom, working on projects by noted architects Phillip Johnson and I.M. Pei.

After becoming a registered architect, Mr. Egan entered the Master's program at Columbia University where he studied architectural design under the architects James Stewart Polshek, the team of Peterson and Littenberg, and the Argentine architect Rafael Viñoly. (Both Peterson/Littenberg and Rafael Viñoly were finalists for the World Trade Center redesign.) Mr. Egan studied architectural theory with the noted British scholar Kenneth Frampton.  After completing his studies he joined Gwathmey/Siegel & Associates as a designer and project architect.  Before opening his own practice, Mr. Egan helped Chicago high-rise architect Helmut Jahn open a New York office.

Christopher Egan & Associates opened in New York in 1986, with custom commercial and residential projects.  In 1991 Mr. Egan returned home to teach  in the Architecture and Interior Design program at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and began to attract clients.  The practice began to grow, and in 1997, Mr. Egan left the university to return to  full-time practice of architecture.

Mr. Egan has lectured on architecture in the United States, Mexico, Guatemala, and New Zealand.  His writings about architecture have been published in the US and abroad.  He is researching for a book, The Memory of Stones, about the architecture of San Antonio, and has written about the architecture of Mexico.
