This new 30-story tower, facing Bloomingdale's in Manhattan, was a project of the internationally known Helmut Jahn Architects (Chicago, New York, Frankfort). Mr. Egan was the senior architect in charge of this project for the New York office. His responsibilities were to take this project from the schematic design to detailed drawings and construction. He directed staff in the New York office and coordinated the work of outside engineering consultants.  The general contractor for this project was later our client for the Sorbara Residence.

"The most difficult aspect of this project was the complex phasing of construction, as we were required to maintain the daily operation of an existing bank.  We first cleared one portion of the bank, created a temporary banking lobby, demolished the old banking lobby, blasted the rock from beneath it, built columns through the temporary lobby, constructed a new lobby, demolished the temporary one, and completed the building.  Construction was also complicated by adjacent subway lines and an 1865 brownstone, which I later restored as the first work of my own office."
